Terrace Drive Grass Fire
08/06/2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grass Fire: Terrace Drive
Just before 11:00 a.m. on August 6th, 2026, the Missoula Rural Fire District (MRFD) was dispatched
to a grass fire off Terrace Drive in the Upper Miller Creek area. The first arriving unit reported
a fire burning in tall grass, moving uphill and spreading rapidly. No structures were immediately
threatened.
Thanks to the prompt reporting of the incident by a member of the public, crews were able to
quickly knock down the fire, holding it to approximately 1/10th of an acre. The cause of the blaze
remains under investigation, although it appears likely to have involved a power pole.
MRFD and the Missoula Fire Department responded to the incident with a total of three engines, one
water tender, and one command vehicle. Assistance was also provided by Northwestern Energy. No
Injuries were reported to firefighters or members of the public.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dry conditions and very high fire danger that exists in
our area. Stage II fire restrictions begin at midnight tonight to minimize the potential for human
caused fires that could threaten our community. Please refer to the attached flyer regarding stage
II fire restrictions.
