Structure Fire 102 Lancer Street in Milltown
News release prepared by:
Battalion Chief Ron Lubke
At approximately 8:12 AM on June 20, 2025, Missoula Rural Fire District (MRFD) was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 102 Lancer Street in Milltown. Despite multiple other incidents occurring at the same time, the first MRFD units arrived on scene at the structure fire in less than six minutes and found a large two-story residence with smoke showing from the second floor and attic.
Fire crews initiated an aggressive offensive fire attack, quickly locating a working fire in the attic of the home. The fire was knocked down within approximately 10 minutes of arrival. Firefighters conducted extensive overhaul operations in the attic, and the fire was declared under control about 30 minutes after fire crews arrived on scene.
Fire damage was contained to the attic, while the remainder of the home sustained smoke and water damage. Damage is estimated between $15,000 and $20,000, with approximately $500,000 in property and contents saved. The cause of the fire is under investigation by MRFD fire investigators.
MRFD responded with three engines, three water tenders, a ladder truck, and a command unit. Assistance was provided by East Missoula Rural Fire District with two additional engines and a command unit. A total of 17 firefighters were on scene. MRFD was also assisted by Missoula Emergency Services ambulance, the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office, and Northwestern Energy.
Fortunately, no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The homeowners are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
MRFD would like to take this opportunity to remind the community to use caution when operating electrical appliances. Never overload electrical outlets, avoid using extension cords as a substitute for permanent wiring, and whenever possible unplug electric appliances that are not in use.
