(Haz-Mat) Response
The Missoula Rural Fire District is part of a Regional Hazardous Materials Team and maintains equipment and personnel to respond to Hazardous Materials Emergencies in our local area and within the State of Montana. Regional Team partners include personnel from the Missoula City Fire Department, The University of Montana, the Missoula Health Department, and the Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Hamilton.

Stations
The State of Montana has six Regional Haz-Mat Teams. Others are in Great Falls, Kalispell, Helena, Bozeman and Billings.
Fire Suppression
Each MRFD team member receives ongoing rigorous training from a variety of agencies, and uses specialized equipment to handle the occasional hazardous incident in Missoula County. The most common incidents involve the release of petroleum products on a roadway, along a rail line or a local waterway.
Most incidents that release hazardous materials in Missoula County involve a form of transportation.
